Obituary of Cynthia BURGER

Cynthia Louise Burger was born in Calgary on October 11, 1963 and spent most of her life here until her sudden passing on January 5, 2016. Cindy left the world a better place with her kindness and generous helpful spirit. She had a love for life, an infectious smile, the most memorable laugh and always had a book in her hand. Her belief in the Tenacity of Purpose ~you don’t strive to stop challenging barriers until they are knocked down~ led her to be a strong advocate for Accessibility, Inclusion and Universal Design especially for the disabled, elderly and impoverished. After attending the Universities of Calgary, Lethbridge, McGill and Concordia she went on to achieve her Masters in Environmental Design-Planning at the University of Calgary. She put her education and own personal experiences to use with many years of service on the City of Calgary’s Advisory Committee on Accessibility which lead to her Emceeing the 2013 International Day for Persons with Disabilities and serving as a Keynote Speaker for Cochrane Town Hall amongst other roles. Along with her many contributions to the betterment of our community she was an artist and an active member of the Mount Pleasant Potters Guild where she spent many hours creating pottery and making friends. She will be dearly missed by her siblings Steve (Susanne) Burger, Jennifer Scott, Ann Burger, Mary (Brent) Kenny, Gina (Norm) Christopher-Shah and Alex Burger, her cherished nephews and nieces Rob, Jack, Clark, Jillian, Lona, Ryan, Erin, Jordan and Justice along with cousins and dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents Dixie (Rowland) Shah and Robin Burger. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W.
