Obituary of Margaret MacKenzie KREMER
August 31, 1931 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
December 30, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
On December 30, 2015, At South Health Campus, Calgary, Mrs. Margaret MacKenzie Kremer (nee Thomson) passed away quietly at 84 years.
Margaret was born on August 31, 1931 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the second daughter to Alexander Campbell and Margaret Lonie Thomson of Fermor Avenue, St. Vital. Margaret attended Glenlawn Collegiate, where she blossomed into a beautiful young woman. While working at the Onyx Theatre, she was introduced to the man she would marry.
Margaret was married to Mervin Carl Kremer on October 3, 1953 at Regents Park United Church in Winnipeg. Their first child, Robert Carl was born in 1956, while they lived on Salter Street in Winnipeg’s north end. Soon after they moved to a home in St. Boniface, where two more children, Andrew Campbell and Alison Louise, were born. In 1970, the family moved from Winnipeg to Calgary, Alberta, where Margaret made friendships that would endure through to the end of her life. In August 1975, Margaret and her family, without eldest son Rob, who remained behind to start his own family in Calgary, moved to Ottawa, Ontario. In Ottawa, Margaret earned her Real Estate licence and returned to the workforce. In July 1979, Margaret, Mervin, and daughter Alison, moved to Montreal, living first in Pierrefonds and later in Hudson, Quebec.
Mervin and Margaret became a retired couple while in Hudson, and the two of them played golf in the summer and curled in the winter — with Margaret going on road trips with her rink to play in the Crystal Pebble in Ottawa. In 1989, Mervin and Margaret moved to a condo at Priddis Greens, where they enjoyed their children, grandchildren, many friends, and many rounds of golf. After Mervin passed away in August 1995, Margaret moved to Calgary in June 2002, to be closer to her family and maintained her own home until 2015.
Margaret is survived by her children Robert and Andrew Kremer, and Alison (Mike) Collins; grandchildren Cory and Chris Kremer, and Sandra (Rudy) Hennick; and great-grandchildren Oliver and Mila Hennick. She was predeceased by her husband Mervin.
With respect to Margaret’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. A private family celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff of the South Health Campus, particularly to the caregivers of Unit 78, who demonstrated great kindness and consideration through a difficult Christmas.
