GRABAR, Leopold “Leo” November 14, 1934 – Krog, Slovenija December 18, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta Leopold “Leo” Grabar beloved husband of Veronika Grabar of Calgary, AB passed away on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the age of 81 years. Leo was born into a large family in Krog, Slovenija on November 14, 1934 to his parents Maria and Franc Grabar. As a young man Leo came to Canada in 1957. He worked in the Canmore coal mines it was there that he met his bride to be Veronika. He then started dry walling to support his growing family. It is a proud fact that many family and friends have Leo to thank for their beautifully developed basements. Leo was a true outdoorsman, he loved fishing and camping he also enjoyed gardening and tending to his yard full of trees. He was famous for feeding his family and friends beef jerky and his homemade salsa. After his retirement Leo enjoyed spending his mornings at the “Bob Bahan Aquatic and Fitness Centre” participating in aquasize classes with his friends. Leo really was young at heart which showed while he chased his grandkids for hours around his yard. He loved life and life loved Leo! From a young child to an adult Leo was a very spiritual man you would find him and his family at church every Sunday in the same pew every time. Leo will be remembered for the love that he had for his family, his friends and for the Lord above. “Life was good”. Leo is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Veronika Grabar; his three daughters Sylvia La Chance (Joe), Susan Johnson and Sandra Sparks (Ian); his grandchildren Tara (Trevor Moore) and Dillon La Chance, Justin and Veronika Johnson and Ryan and Tyler Sparks; as well many nephews and nieces from Canada, USA, and Slovenija. Leo was predeceased by his parents Maria and Franc Grabar; his three sisters and five brothers. The Grabar family would like to thank the nursing staff and doctors at the Foothills Hospital Unit 36 Special Services Building for their continual support and care towards our beloved Leo as well towards his family. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive N.E., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday December 22, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (1525 45 Street S.E.) on Wednesday December 23, 2015 at 11:00a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountainview Memorial Gardens.
