Obituary of Judith FARKAS

April 13, 1931 – Budapest, Hungary December 16, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta Our loving and caring mother, Judith Farkas passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 16th at the Dulcina Hospice. Despite growing up in Budapest, Hungary in a time of tremendous uncertainty between the two World Wars, she had fond childhood memories of time spent with her family at the family cottage in Battonya, in rural Hungary. Following the 1956 revolution, with her then newlywed husband, Andrew, they immigrated to Canada to find a better life for the two of them and their family to be. Our Mom, like our Dad, did what they had to, to build a home for themselves and their two sons to come. She had many interesting stories to tell about those early days in her new home of Calgary Alberta, including be a nanny, waitressing at the Palliser Hotel and then finding an opportunity to use her skill at computing large sums of numbers, at a time when computers and calculators were unheard of, to build a life long career in the oil and gas industry. Our Mom was firm, loving and a great provider. She made sure her sons were well mannered, encouraged them to aspire to be the best they could be and prepared them for all of challenges of the adult world. She enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and like her siblings, never tired of debating politics. The passing of our Dad some years ago left a large whole in her heart and world. Judith is survived by her sister Klara; brothers, Thomas (Linda), Andy (Sheri) and Szabolcs (Gabi); sister-in-law Marika; two sons, Peter (Ildiko) and David (Tina); four grandchildren, Thomas, Gregory, Christine and Timea; great-grandson Atticus; and numerous relatives around the world.
