Obituary of Rudolf Joseph BOZAK

October 14, 1930 – Swift Current, Saskatchewan December 5, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta RJ (Joe) Bozak passed away in his sleep at home on December 5, 2015. Uncle Joe to his many nieces and nephews, was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on October 14, 1930. He was the youngest of 6 siblings. He spent his early years with his mother living with his grandfather in Sifton, Manitoba. This was during the Great Depression and much of the time was spent gathering firewood and winter supplies of cabbage and other vegetables. He often recounted interesting times in the small two room house he and his grandfather and mother lived in. He and his mother moved regularly in search of work after his grandfather passed away in 1942. Later, Uncle Joe spent his 35 year career in the oil patch as a Seismic Party Supervisor for Frontier Geophysical, Ray Geophysical and Capilano Geophysical. This work had him see most of western and northern Canada as well as the Middle East. His vacations in Spain, Jordan and Lebanon were highlights in Uncle Joe’s life that he recounted regularly. He met May Baptie and they were married in 1970 and traveled North America in their motor home spending winters in California and Arizona with friend and family after they retired. They had no children of their own but were very kind and giving to their many nieces and nephews. May passed away in 2008. Uncle Joe loved being around people and particularly children. He was delighted when the great and great-great nieces and nephews were around and loved to listen to them and participate in their lives. Uncle Joe had a great passion for life and was the eternal collector. His world class collections of insulators, barbed wire, date nails and fence staples would be the envy of many collectors and the souvenirs he brought home from his adventures and collected during the travels with Aunt May were proudly displayed throughout his house. Every object had a story and place in his heart. Uncle Joe had an incredible memory for dates, places, and events and was a keen observer of politics, loved sports of every kind and spent much of his leisure time keeping up to date with those passions. Many times when visiting Uncle Joe he would not hear the door as the TV was loud since he hated wearing his “ear plugs” and preferred high volume to annoying appliances. At Uncle Joe’s request, no service will be held and interment will be in Cochrane Cemetery with his beloved May. Uncle Joe will be missed by his many friends, nieces, nephews and all those that knew him. In lieu of flowers donations to the Bow Valley SPCA in Canmore, Alberta in honor of his beloved cats Pearl and Jade would be appreciated. Condolences may be forwarded through . In living memory of Joe Bozak, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W. Telephone: 403-241-0044.
