Obituary of Gordon Robert SCOTT

November 19, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
Gordon Scott, beloved husband of Helen Scott of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the age of 79 years.
Gordon was born and raised in Vermilion, AB and attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton where he attained his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science in Petroleum Engineering. He married Helen Margaret Makowichuk on November 21, 1959 in Edmonton. They lived in Drayton Valley for a few years before moving to Calgary to work and raise a family. Gordon had a diverse career in Oil & Gas, including being part of the very first oil rig to drill in the Arctic and working one year in Bolivia helping its government with the regulation of oil and gas. He was also a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). In his spare time he did volunteer work with the Ski Patrol at Banff Mount Norquay and was very involved in minor hockey (his son Andrew played) and minor soccer. Gordon liked the outdoors, spending time with family and friends, curling and skiing, fishing and camping, and golfing and travelling.
Besides his loving wife Helen Margaret Scott, Gordon is survived by his son Andrew and grandsons Mitchell and Tanner and his daughter Diana. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Scully and brother Dale (Karin) Scott. He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Margaret Scott, his brother John Scott and brother-in-law Roger Scully.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Drive N.W.) on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
