Obituary of Zvonimir MILAS

January 14, 1944 – Sarajevo September 20, 2015 – Calgary, AB Zvonimir “Zvonko” Milas passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at the age of 71 years. Zvonimir was born in Sarajevo, BiH at that time Croatia NDH. His early life he lived in Rama – Prozor. In 1960, he completed his automotive mechanic apprenticeship in Sarajevo and started his attempts for a better life. He immigrated to Regina, SK in 1965 where a year later he was joined by his wife to be Ruza (nee Filipovic) also from Rama. They were blessed with two sons and two daughters. He made a living working as a heavy duty mechanic at an Elkford, BC coal mine where he also maintained his passion for working on automobiles. He always appreciated what a great life Canada offered for him and his family, not forgetting and holding dear to heart his homeland of Croatia. Zvonimir is survived by wife, Ruza; his four children, Magdalina, Ivan, Martin (Irena) and Kata (Larry); grandchildren, Lea and Mia; his brothers, Ivan, Stjepan and Jozo; his sisters, Marta, Marica and Ana, including numerous nieces and nephews in Croatia, BiH and Germany. Zvonimir was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Manda and his sister Kata. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at Our Lady of Marija Bistrica Croatian Catholic Church (14680 Deer Ridge Drive SE, Calgary) on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Marija Bistrica Croatian Catholic Church (14680 Deer Ridge Drive SE, Calgary) on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
