February 17, 1923 – La Spezia, Italy September 3, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta Edvige Adele Oss-Cech (Didi) was born in La Spezia, Italy, on February 17, 1923 and left us on September 3, 2015. She was trained in music and the humanities in Florence relishing her books by Dante, Petrarch, Manzoni as much as Thomas Merton and Carlo Carretto. Her mother, Aurelia (a gifted musician), was her teacher and the inspiration for her love of music. She loved Chopin and Bach. Didi married Ludwig Oss-Cech in Florence on July 31, 1948. Their life together was one of love, perseverance, and unrelenting faith. Together they raised a loving family. Their children are: Francesco, Stefano, Francesco, Maurizio, Luca, Maria, Simonetta, Lorenzo, Carolina, and Stefania. The family travelled extensively, encountering new adventures and languages with the desire to embrace each new culture. Deep in Didi’s heart lived her Florentine spirit. Indeed her legacy rests in great appreciation of all the arts and profound human compassion.
