Obituary of Veronica Mary MCKERVEY
May 6, 1971 – Calgary, AB
July 9, 2015 – Rocky Mountain House, AB
Veronica McKervey, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the age of 44 years.
Veronica was born in Calgary, AB to Arthur and Anne McKervey, the 13th of 15 children. She was educated in Calgary until the ninth grade, then attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in St. Mary’s, Kansas. This began a new chapter in her life. Her youthful exuberance and spirited antics are still remembered 26 years later!
Her experiences in boarding school built close friendships across Canada and the United States. This broadened her view which lead her to travel throughout the world. Veronica’s quick wit, humour and intellect will be missed by her many friends made in every place she visited.
Veronica worked all her life as the secretary/bookkeeper and general “girl Friday” for her brothers’ business, Empire Truck Parts. She made every birthday special for the employees and the cold winter days bearable with her homemade soups and cookies. She will be sorely missed by the boys at Empire.
She never married so she never had children of her own, however she was a devoted Aunt to her 118 nephews and nieces and 79 great-nephews and nieces. She was always a very big part in all their lives and was always there to offer some good advice or help when the occasion arose. Veronica was a woman of strong faith and character and showed this by attending the Traditional Latin Mass daily. Her Catholic faith was at the centre of every aspect of Veronica’s life.
Veronica enjoyed a close relationship with all of her fourteen brothers and sisters and their respective spouses. She was always a tremendous support to them in times of need while raising their large families. Veronica was the care giver and constant companion of her mother until her passing in 2007. She will be especially missed by her brother Vincent, with whom she lived.
Veronica is survived by her brothers and sisters, Catherine(Eugene) Land, Martin (Deirdre) McKervey, Joseph (Deborah) McKervey, Marie (Ken) May, Patrick (Kathy) McKervey, Mark (Carol) McKervey, Bernadette (Steve) Tobler, Anthony (Louise) McKervey, Jesintha (Doug) Kondra, Cecilia (John) Beauregard, Monica (Craig) Langlois, Teresa (Paul) Whyburd, Vincent McKervey and Victoria (Scott) Brettelle. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles; Margaret (Ralph) Imbery, Mary Dubeau/Vanson, Dallas (Fred RIP+) Fillinger, Victor (Erica) Fillinger, Anna (Stanley RIP+) Fillinger; as well as her numerous nephews and nieces; cousins; extended family and dear friends all around the world.
