Condolences
Sending my condolences and blessings to Lois and Winston’s family in the loss of a great, caring friend, we have our memories forever – Shirley K
We were so saddened to hear of Winston’s passing. He was a huge personality and this is a significant loss to our community. Some of our fondest memories are seeking him out whenever we boarded the route 13 bus, as when he was there we knew we were going to have a great trip! He was a great conversationalist and always had a smile on his face. He brought a large group of neighbors together–not only on the bus–but also for barbeques and dinners. He made you feel welcomed. And we still talk about how good his barbequed hamburgers tasted. Our hearts go out to you, Lois
Beautiful and courageous Lois,
Please receive our deepest condolences from the Sanoviv family. Winston will be missed and we will forever cherish his witty personality and sense of humor. He was definitely a warrior, and a genuine soul. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Love
Mary Jimenez
Winston fought a long and hard battle with a health issue that was not of his making. There is no doubt that he WON. He is at peace now and deserves his rest. He was indeed a “special Father”; a matter that we honoured and respected. We mourn now but our smiles will return as memories from the past come back to life. Stand tall Lois.
Love,
-Larry and Diane Gebhart
Winston was truly a wonderful, kind, fun, generous friend – I also will miss him and our fun visits at my house each Christmas season!
Please accept my condolences to all of you and especially my dear friend and his loving wife — Lois.
My deepest condolences to all of those who loved Winston. I remember him fondly from the Amoco days and had a chance to reconnect last year at a course he taught. Winston was a fun and truly inspirational character.
Dear Lois:
Sincere condolences on the passing of Winston. I was a co-worker of Winston at ConocoPhillips, and appreciated his professionalism, practical attitude and kind presence. I also enjoyed chatting with both of you at River Park over the last few years. Best wishes to you.

Dear Lois, Although our paths crossed only briefly, I was honored to have met Winston and knew him as a strong and proud man. I have thought of you both often and know he will be missed. Sincerely, Pat Klein
Lois,
Kathy and I are so sorry for the loss of your life’s companion and friend, Winston. Our thoughts and prayers are, of course with you and your family at this time. If there is anything that you need help with, please let us know. Winston will always be remembered as not only one of the good people that I have known, but also as a pretty cool guy. Mike
Dear Lois,
Our condolences to you and your family. His loss will leave a hole in many lives as the space he filled was always filled with laughter, caring and knowledge. I enjoyed working with Winston at Amoco. He worked very hard and deserved all the recognition he fought so hard for. Winston always made everyone’s life better with his humor, smiles, caring and sometimes attitude. He was one of kind who will live on through those he taught to live life to the fullest.
Pat
Lois and family – Dave and I were shocked and saddened to read of Winston’s passing. I have missed seeing him on the bus lately and wondered where he might be. I will miss his warm smile and our always cheerful conversations. I will always cherish my memories of the many fun times with Winston when he co-coached the “Amoco Aces” ladies baseball team. He had a personality and a sense of humour as big as his mustache! Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Dear Lois,
I was saddened to hear of Winston’s passing. I will always have many fond memories of working with Winston on the Geo-Triad ’98 convention, then through the CSEG DoodleTrain Continuing Education program and later professionally within the industry. Aside from being a great petrophysicist, he was a caring individual and a true gentleman. I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to Lois and the entire family. Sincerely, Doug Uffen
It was my good fortune from 1977 to 1992 to be associated with Winston in the Tech Group/Logging Group at Amoco Canada. He was always a gentleman, rightly full of confidence in his expertise, a pleasure to be around and I’m saddened to learn of his passing. He brightened every day.
My sincere condolences to Lois Decker and family.
Lois,
Catherine and I are so sad to hear of Winston’s passing. He was such a generous and at the same time gregarious person, so full of fun and laughter. As many of the tributes say, he was indeed involved in his work. I can remember teaching a group of students with Winston at Amoco, and we would take turns teaching for an hour, then switch off. I was always impressed with the way he thought things through, a real pro. As friends we take this news hard, and I want you to know you have our sympathy in this difficult time. If we can help in any way let us know. We will miss him. Steve and Catherine.
Dear Lois,
It is with a saddened heart that I hear of Winston’s passing and that he finally lost his long fight with his illness. Winston was such a wonderful person who touched many people in many different ways. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. I was glad to spend some time with both yourself and Winston in Cabo at Carmen’s wedding. His sense of humour, smile and moustache will never be forgotten. My deepest condolences to you Lois and the entire family.

Dear Lois
I was very sad to hear about the passing of your dear husband Winston. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In the 20 years that I knew him, I don’t think that I ever saw him angry. He was always very positive. He was a good listener. He loved gardening and always asked me how my tomatoes were doing. He talked a lot about Hawaii and how much he enjoyed it there. Winston contributed very significantly to the CWLS and was instrumental in a very successful 40th CWLS anniversary celebration back in 1995, when I had the pleasure of working with him. My deepest condolences to you and your family. Sincerely, Taras Dziuba
My deepest sympathies to Lois and Winston’s family. Winston will be remembered fondly as a truly unique individual who contributed a great deal through both his professional and his personal life. He will be missed

Lois: George and I were so saddened when we heard that Winston has passed away. The world has lost a wonderful person and we will miss his infectious laugh. He was joyful and funny. I still remember a famous Winston-ism: ” Two heads are better than one, even if one is a cabbage”. I think of that saying often and it makes me smile. Winston was so generous with his time; he was committed to mentoring and teaching. There are many colleagues who learned so much from him, not just about technical matters, but about kindness and graciousness. Some of my fondest memories are of the Monday night volleyball sessions that you two organized in the 1980’s and of course, the geoscience BBQ’s. We had some fun didn’t we?
Deepest regards, Deb Duggan and George Eden.
I met Winston while working at Amoco and later BP. He was a great person to work with and stood out as a real gentlemen in the oilpatch!
Winston will be sadly missed by all us who knew and worked with him.
Sincere condolences Lois. He made a huge contribution . Sympathy to you and his extended family. Daryl
Dear Lois,
I am deeply sorry for your loss. Winston was one of the most genuine people I had ever had the pleasure of meeting. In a city and industry, that is often so fast-pased that people don’t take the time out to get know each other; Winston was always interested to hear about your family or your children, or your interests. Like many before me, Winston was a huge influence on my early career, and I will miss our monthly lunches where we would chat about life, work and everything in between.
Sincerely,
Tim Crowther and Family – Calgary
The world has lost a great person and oil finder. Winston was a good man.
Very sadden. A fond memory was the 1st Edmonton Oiler Stanley cup win. Winston joined some friends and I to watch the game. Then we decided to go downtown, driving in a Classic Cadillac parking at the Convention Centre and walking down Jasper Ave. It was a crazy and fun night.
My deepest sympathies and condolences to Winston’s Family.
Dear Lois,
We want you to know how much we regret Winston’s passing. You both fought a brave battle for decades, and through it traveled a good life together. We have such fond memories of wonderful times spent with you, and Winston. He will be deeply missed. We love you both dearly.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to you. Please know we are here for you. You are always welcome in our home, and we know that we will always remain the best of friends.
Love,
Karen and Stephen Sweig

Dear Lois,
Very sorry to hear about Winston passing away. I will remember Winston for his friendship and
professionalism. I knew him from my first job interview in 1980 and I always enjoyed working with him in CWLS and in company meetings. He will be missed by all his friends and colleagues.
