Obituary of Rosemarie Hanna MERTENS

October, 17, 1936 – Karlsruhe, Germany June, 16, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta Rosemarie Mertens (nee Merkel), affectionately called Rosi by many, was taken from us suddenly on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 78 with family and friends at her bedside. Rosemarie was born on October 17, 1936 in Karlsruhe, Germany, the eldest of three daughters. She was married to Wolfgang Mertens in 1958 and followed him to Canada with their only child, Patricia, in 1961. Her life and passion were for her family; cooking was her delight. She will always be remembered for her kindness to others, her positive outlook and her belief in the goodness of life. She was our angel and her passing will be felt deeply by her husband of 56 years, Wolfgang Mertens; daughter Patricia Pohlen (Klaus); granddaughter Katrina Colleaux Nicolls (Levi); grandson Travis Colleaux; her beloved sisters, Brunhild Woll and Gudrun Goebel; nieces Michelle Hurst, Theresa Sullivan and Almut Brandenburg and a legion of friends.
