Obituary of Anna Elizabeth SCOTT
September 25, 1918 – Palmerston, Ontario
June 11, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
Elizabeth Scott (nee McGee) of Calgary passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the age of 96 years.
Elizabeth was married on October 25, 1941 to Ralph Winston Scott, who passed away on January 14, 2005 in Calgary at age 88. Ralph was a pilot who served many years in the RCAF, starting in WWII, then the Korean War and finally in the peacetime Air Force. He had a subsequent second career as a secondary school teacher.
Elizabeth trained and graduated as a Registered Nurse at the Toronto Western Hospital. She worked briefly as an RN, then in the home raising a family. After the children left home, she had a second career as a Social Worker in Calgary. The family lived primarily in two places: Trenton, ON and Calgary, AB.
Elizabeth took great pride in her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was dearly loved by them. She generously supported several grandchildren with post-secondary education. Her greatly prized hand-made quilts and carefully-selected children’s books are being passed on generation-to-generation. Elizabeth acquired a love of aviation from her late husband, a former RCAF pilot, and loved to check out aircraft comings and goings at the Springbank airfield. Long drives in the country were a favourite outing, with particular interest sighting birds of prey, deer and other animals. Although an accomplished cook, she greatly loved going out for dinner in her later years and was known to observe “any meal I don’t have to prepare and clean up after is a good one”.
Elizabeth is survived by four children, Bill Scott (Andree) of Ottawa, ON, Lila McLean of Calgary, Mary Scott of Calgary, and Wayne Scott of Carsland, AB; eight grandchildren, David Scott (Anne-Marie) of Ottawa, Ian Scott (Nathalie) of Odessa, ON, Michelle Mascioli (Mauro) of Ottawa, Katherine Hardy (Ben) of Calgary, Ryan Yancey (Meagan) of Calgary, Julie King of Edmonton, Trevor Scott of Calgary, and Karen Scott of Kelowna, BC; and fifteen great-grandchildren, Alexander, Jeremy, Alyssa, Emma, Michael, Nicholas, Gabriel, Marilyn, Blythe, Evanlea, Hannah, Kailee, Jonathan, Jordan, and Casslyn.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Ralph, sister Charlotte McGee (Belleville), brother William McGee (Belleville) and sister-in-law Isabelle McGee (Belleville).
