Obituary of Carrol Wayne HARRIS
May 4, 1938 – Hampton, Arkansas
June 4, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
Wayne Harris beloved husband of Anne Harris of Calgary, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the age of 77 years.
Born in Hampton, Arkansas to Agnes and Chick Harris, the family soon moved to El Dorado, Arkansas where Wayne grew up. His parents instilled in him the love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing in the soft hills of South Arkansas. Most of all, they taught Wayne the value of hard work and enduring love of family. Wayne graduated from El Dorado High School and attended the University of Arkansas before moving to Calgary in 1961 to play football for the Calgary Stampeders. He worked in the oil patch for CanTex Drilling and Exploration LTD, becoming Vice President and Manager of Operations and Assistant General Manager. These two organizations became his second family. Wayne had an abiding love for his adopted city and country.
Wayne is survived by Anne, his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 56 years; his children Wayne Jr. (Bev) Harris of Calgary, Wynelle Clark of Edmonton, Cooper (Summer) Harris of Kansas and Heather Anne (Ryan) Twordik of Kelowna; grandchildren James (Vickie), Daralynne (Tyler), Piper, Collins and Emberlyn; sisters Jane Waters of El Dorado, Patsy Norris of Denton, TX, Judy Young of Malvern, AR; brother Kenneth Harris of El Dorado, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Wayne has received many honours in his life, but most of all he will be remembered as a humble, kind and loving man.
Funeral Services will be held at Westview Baptist Church (1313 Ranchlands Way NW, Calgary) on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
