Obituary of Annie D. LITCHFIELD

September 23, 1905 – Peterhead, Scotland May 13, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta Annie (Nancy) D. Litchfield passed away peacefully at the Brentwood nursing home at an amazing 109 years of age where she leaves many friends and care workers who loved her dearly. Born in Peterhead Scotland, raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia she trained as a (Queen Anne’s) nurse in Scotland. By luck and good fortune after training she found work with a family friend to King George V and was fortunate to have looked after Princess Elizabeth and Margaret before leaving Scotland. Nancy married Dennis Litchfield in Kingston, Ontario. They moved west and enjoyed a simple life in Calgary raising five children; Dennis, Mary, David, Peter and Patrick. She enjoyed 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Dennis and son Patrick. Her family settled in The Bearspaw area in where she lived for more than 65 years. An active member of the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) Nancy loved all animals especially dogs. She still walked a mile a day right up until she was 100 years of age, cooked her own meals and enjoyed a very healthy life. She loved western life and truly adored the Calgary Stampede and its heritage. She attended all those she could manage, and this was highlighted at the 100th anniversary when she was Mayor Naheed Nenshi guest of honour. Nancy was a true fiery Scotswoman, who was loved and will be missed by so many. Nancy’s life will be honoured at the Brentwood Care Facility (2727 – 16th Ave NW) on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. If you are a family or friend and involved in Nancy’s life she would welcome your attendance. The family asks that donations are made to the Calgary Humane Society in her honour. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
