Obituary of Maureen Lois HOPKINS

February 14, 1944 – Vancouver, British Columbia May 2, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta Maureen of Calgary, AB, passed away on May 2, 2015 at the age of 71 years. Maureen was born on Valentine’s Day and all that loved her believe it is the reason she was such a sweetheart. Maureen was raised in Vancouver by her adopted mother and father. She was very devoted to her adopted father, a trait she carried on with her devotion to her own family. Maureen always loved all animals; especially horses and small dogs. Mom met her husband in Vancouver at Eaton’s where she was his secretary. This was the only time she took orders from her husband. Mom ruled the house with her quiet and graceful manner. Maureen and her husband moved to Calgary where they settled down to raise their two daughters. After her daughters were in school, Maureen returned to work as an administrator at Rockyview Hospital. Later in her life she was blessed to connect with her biological family. Maureen had many friends and extended family she cherished and many considered Maureen their best friend. Maureen lived her life with grace, dignity and kindness. She was honest and classy and her well known beauty emanated inside and out. Throughout her life she devoted herself to her daughters and her husband and always put others first. For a woman, who by nature was reserved, she still left a powerful impact on all she met by the way she lived her life. Maureen did not lecture, she did not judge and she did not gossip she simply forgave and loved. But Maureen did stand up for what she believed in and the truth. She would not stand quietly by when she felt there were injustices in her or her family’s life. She was fiercely protective of those she loved. Maureen is survived by her daughters Stephanie (Paul Chamberland), Cynthia Nelson (Brian Nelson), her grandchildren Adam, Luke and Chloe and numerous extended family. Maureen was predeceased by her husband Arthur Hopkins, her brother-in-law Buddy, sister-in-law Carol and brother-in-law Steen.
