Obituary of Brian John GORMAN

August 18, 1926 – Newport, England April 1, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta Dr. Brian Gorman, beloved husband of Joan Gorman of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the age of 88 years. Brian was born in Newport England August 18, 1926. He was one of seven children raised in a happy home. He joined the British Army at age 17 and attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. After the war he worked at numerous jobs in many countries before returning to England to become a medical doctor. He met his wife Joan and they were married on September 17, 1955. After medical school and with their first born son Peter they emigrated to Canada in 1961. They settled in Bashaw, Alberta where he was a general practitioner for 13 years. During that time they had two more children, Alice and David. They moved to Calgary in 1975. He changed his practice to focus on helping people with stress disorders. He wrote a book and developed other course material that he used to counsel his patients. Brian continued working until age 79. He enjoyed many trips overseas with his wife Joan, including trekking in Nepal and New Zealand. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandson. He was greatly comforted by his faith in Jesus in his latter years. Brian was a kind and caring man who helped so many people throughout his life. He will be greatly missed. Besides his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Brian is survived by his children, Dr. Peter Gorman (Linda), Alice Jansen (Ed), and David Gorman (Paula); six grandchildren, Sarah Schindel (Andrew), Theresa Jansen, Vanessa Jansen (Steven Malthouse), John Gorman, Catherine Gorman, and David Gorman; and a great-grandson Isaiah Schindel. He is also survived by two sisters, Norah Gorman and Mary Frances and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Brian’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 2:00p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
