Obituary of Varda Elizabeth DESLANDES

March, 5, 1931 – Chardonnières, Haiti March, 22, 2015 – Calgary, AB Varda passed away on March 22, 2015 at the age of 84 years. Varda was born in Chardonnières, Haiti. She had a Masters in Education(Phychopedagogy), a Bachelors in Education, and Bachelor’s in Arts (French Literature) from the University of Ottawa. She immigrated to Canada from Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1969. Subsequently, she and her family moved to Ottawa (March 1970). Varda relocated to Calgary in August 2005. She was a school principal in Haiti and along time school teacher and counsellor for the Ottawa Catholic School Board. In Calgary, she was a member of the Saint-Famille Church. However, in Ottawa, she is known as a long time benefactor of Foi et Télévision Chrétienne and the founder of the Ottawa Béthanie Prayer Group. Founded over 25 years ago, this group still meets regularly today. Varda was a compass for everyone who met her. She will be missed. Varda is survived by her children Gisèle Tennant (Micheal), Karine Zamor (Kevin Willis), Marge Zamor; grandchildren Shawn Tennant, Tara Jackson (Steven). Dyami Zamor, Maya Poudrier, and Liam Willis. Varda was predeceased by former husband Eugène Céciade Zamor (1999); son Léonard Eugène Zamor (2005); and mother Eléonore Deslandes (1995).
