Obituary of James Kenneth ‘Ken’ SANGSTER

1931 – 2015 Ken Sangster, beloved husband of the late Gertrude Trotman, passed away at his home on February 19, 2015 at the age of 84 years. Ken had wonderful memories of his time with family and friends, growing up in Redcliff, Alberta. He was proud to be an officer of the Canadian Armed Forces and serve his country. The adventure of military service took Ken across Canada, Korea, the Middle East, and Germany. A highlight of his career was serving as the Canadian Liaison Officer to the United States Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After retiring from military service, he enjoyed a second career with the Calgary Police Commission. Ken had a passion for rich debate and brought joy to all those around him with his wonderful and often humorous stories of his life. Ken could always be counted on to be the life of the party. Although he loved traveling the world, the trips he loved most were with family. Ken was a dedicated and proud granddad. He could not refrain from telling anyone and everyone about his amazing grandchildren. Family was central to his world. Ken felt blessed by the extensive group of friends he cultivate including his friends from the Redcliff Recall, the gang at South Center, Probus, the congregation at St. Andrews and his dear friends at The Manor at Garrison Woods. Ken will be remembered fondly for his unconditional love and support, his integrity, strength, tenacity, loyalty, positive nature, humour and quick wit. He is greatly missed by his daughters and their husbands, Leslie and Bob Riley, Laurie and Joseph Hickey, and Jeannie and Richard Everett. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Kristen Hickey, Brandon Hickey, and Jamie Everett. Ken held a special place in his heart for Richard’s daughters, Michelle Faunt and her husband Todd and Cheralyn Doell and her husband Allen and their families. Ken was a loving husband, father, granddad, brother, uncle, and trusted friend. His thoughtful, kind ways and quick wit will be missed by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Jim Trotman, Bryan Targett, Doreen Sangster and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Cecil and Donald and his wife Evelyn Sangster and his sister, Elaine Targett.
