Obituary of Isabella Irene Murray DIXON

September 9, 1920 – Lacombe, Alberta January 17, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta On January 17, 2015 at the age of 94 years, our dear Mom, Isabell Dixon, went home to be with the Lord and reunited with her husband John Dixon, her beloved of 62 years. Mom, her sister Viola, and brother Murray grew up in Lacombe where their Scottish born father and mother, Amanda, managed their family farm/ cattle business, MacKenzie Bros. She graduated from U of Alberta with a Home Economics Degree and taught for two years in small towns around Lacombe and Turner Valley area. In 1944, “Queenie”, married her university sweetheart, John Dixon, from Medicine Hat. They lived in Montreal, Boston, and a remote mining camp in Alaska during Dad’s Medical/Surgical training years. In 1954, they moved to Calgary where Dad set up his medical practice. Mom was a wonderful dedicated mother who raised three children, Ann, Bob, and Louise. She was also loved by her neighbours of Stanley Drive and faithfully served with Samaritan Club of Calgary helping needy families in the community. Mom loved chatting over bridge with her street wives’ “Happy Hearts Club, curling, and golfing. Together with a university classmate, Val Black, they ran a home based gourmet cooking business for several years. Mom and Dad shared many great summers together at their cabin on Vancouver Island with friends and family. Mom loved travelling the world with Dad and especially enjoyed visiting their Scottish cousins overseas. Mom lived her last 9 years at Trinity Lodge Retirement Home where she was blessed with support and loving care. We will miss such an amazing Godly mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who gave us all her gift of kindness, gentleness, generosity, and a deep love for her family. Mom is survived by her three children, Ann Jenkins (Don), Bob Dixon (Rose), Louise Harder (John), eight grandchildren, Megs Estabrooks (Bruce), John Jenkins (Jenn), Laura Jenkins, Kristian Dixon, Karin Mapletoft (Bryce), David, Dayna and Jordan Harder, three dear great-grandchildren, Hazel and Eddie Estabrooks, Julianna Jenkins, her sister Viola Grisdale, and Mona MacKenzie (wife of brother Murray). A Memorial Service will be held at Bethany Chapel (3333 Richardson Way S.W.) on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Reception will follow at the Calgary Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate a donation sent to the Samaritan Club of Calgary.
