Obituary of Joanne Madeline McNICHOL

McNICHOL, Joanne Madeline (nee Eby) June 19, 1943 – Unity, SK January 3, 2015 – Calgary, AB It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mrs. Joanne “Jo” Madeline McNichol on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the age of 71 years. Jo was born in Unity, Saskatchewan and attended the Holy family school of Nursing in Prince Albert where she began her training in 1961 to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. In 1962 she married Lyle McNichol (divorced in1999) and together they had two sons, Michael in 1964 and Lowell in 1966. Jo was passionate about her family and about her nursing. In 1968 she received her certified Nursing Assistant diploma and in 1974 she completed her training as a Licensed Practical Nurse, just two short years after moving to Dauphin Manitoba. Jo worked at numerous places in Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan; including Edmonton General Hospital, Lutheran Sunset Home in Saskatoon, Dauphin Personal Care Home and the Dauphin General Hospital. She was a member of the MALPN from 1974-1994 and held the office of President from 1981 to 1983; she was also a member of Alexandra Rebekah from 1981-2004. Jo wanted to leave a message for her family and friends “Be happy and remember all the great times we had together, and the sad times we went through made us stronger and better for it” Jo is survived by her son Lowell McNichol (Jennifer); her grandchildren Everest and Emily; and her siblings Ron (Dianne), Judy (Keith) and Sandy (Deryl). She was predeceased by her parents George and Edith; and by her son Michael in 1980. A Memorial Services will be in Dauphin, MB and will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church (404 1st Street, S.W.) on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 1:00p.m. with a tea to follow. Internment Service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, (Riverside Road, Dauphin, MB at 4:00p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com or email eveandem@shaw.ca.
