Obituary of Barbara CAMPBELL
CAMPBELL, Barbara
September 12th, 1923 – November 30th, 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Barbara Campbell on November 30th, 2014 at the age of 91.
Barb was predeceased by her husband, John Campbell, of 52 years. She is survived by her daughters Gail (Steven), Mary (Terry), and her four grandchildren, Ryan, Ashley, Alix, and MacKenzie all of whom referred to her as Amma.
Born and raised in Battleford, Saskatchewan, Barb relocated to Vancouver, where she worked at the University of British Columbia as a secretary to the Dean of Forestry.
In 1944, Barb accepted a blind date where she met John (Jack) Campbell, a dapper young flight instructor with the RCAF. Their relationship flourished and post-war, John attended UBC then began a lifelong career with the Hudson’s Bay Company. Barb and John accepted a transfer to Calgary in 1955 and after both daughters were born and of school age, Barb returned to the work force, spending 22 years as secretary at Elbow Park Elementary School.
Barb and John lived a busy and active life, highlighted by date night every Saturday. The Palliser, Hy’s and Caesar’s were all frequent favourites. They also enjoyed gardening, dancing, camping, and family dinners. Barb remained active after John’s passing with golfing, bridging, reading and shopping every Saturday.
A classy lady, Barb was always well dressed, enjoyed a good scotch or a nice glass of wine and played a mean game of bocce ball. Travel became a big part of her life in her latter years, vacationing in the Bahamas, Whitefish Lake and Palm Springs.
Barb’s was a life well lived by anyone’s measure. She was much loved and will be dearly missed by all.
A celebration of Barb’s life will be held on Sunday, December 14th, 2014 between 2pm and 5pm at the home of Gail and Steve Johnson at 332 Lake Placid Green S.E. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be forwarded through .
In living memory of Barbara Campbell, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
