Obituary of Gary Brian BUTLER

February 4, 1943 – Sherbrooke, Quebec December 2, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta Gary Butler of Calgary slipped gently away with family nearby on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the age of 71 years. Gary is survived by his children, Jay, Shannon, and Bryce (Melanie); and three grandchildren, Grayson, Grace and Emma. He was predeceased by his wife of forty-three years, Darlene (2006). Gary was man of many talents and even more interests. Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, he moved to Yellowknife in the NWT with his parents where he was raised and went to school. Here is where he met his life partner Darlene in 1962, they were soon married in 1963 and had forty-three full and active years together. That same year they moved to Toronto where Gary received his associate’s degree in Public Health which began a lifelong and rewarding career in this field. Gary and Darlene moved to Castlegar, BC in 1965, and then finally to Calgary in 1966 where they made their home and careers, and raised their three children. Gary always spoke of his life as a fortunate one. He was a compassionate family man who valued the people in his life, and was open and welcoming to all. He was able to do much traveling to many places, and he was an active member and leader in his union and in his community. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
