Obituary of Muriel Ellen HUNTER

1930-2014 Muriel (“Mert”) Hunter, 84, of Saskatoon and Calgary, passed away on November 30 after a brief stay in Rockview Hospital. Mert was born in Weldon, Saskatchewan on November 18, 1930, to Henry Thorimbert and Bella (nee McDonald) Thorimbert. She met her beloved William (Bill) Hunter; they married Jun 20, 1951. Mert and Bill moved to Calgary from Saskatoon, then later to Water Valley where farming became their life. Upon retirement, they moved to Tuscany – North West Calgary. Mert will always be remembered as a loving mum, grandma and most wonderful friend. She had an incredible zest for life, her kindness to others always made people feel extraordinarily special and her ability to make others laugh was truly a gift. Mert enjoyed playing golf, loved camping, she was a good card player and even better at crib. But what she simply enjoyed the most was to spend time sharing a few drinks and laughs with friends and family. A most beautiful woman on the inside and out. Mert is survived by her two children Janet Hunter, Robert Hunter, and daughter-in law Leanne Hassenbach; six grandchildren: four boys – Russell (wife Lucy) Harris, William Harris, Christopher Harris, Oliver Davidson and two girls – Amanda Hunter and Ashley Keen; two great grandsons- Khaled Hunter and Gauge Hunter. Mert was preceded in death by her loving husband William (Bill) Hunter, son Richard (Rick) Hunter, daughter Judy Keen and granddaughter Jill Harris. The family would like to thank the staff at Rockyview Hospital for ensuring Mert’s final days were spent with care, dignity and a few laughs.
