Obituary of Roland Sylvio PELLETIER

October 26, 1922 – Legal, Alberta November 14, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta Roland beloved husband of the late Marie Pelletier (nee Sorra) and the late Mary Pelletier (nee Holowachuk) passed away on November 14, 2014 at the age of 92 years. Roland enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force near the end of the war and saw action in Germany. He was part of the occupational forc-es. He was always very proud of his military service record. He met his first wife, Marie Sorra, of Estonian descent while there and they married in a formal church wedding in Germany. She followed him on a later ship to Canada and they lived in Edmonton, AB where Roland became an accomplished printer, then the Manager of his employer. Marie after having her only child, John, opened and managed a successful restaurant business including the Edmonton City Hall cafeteria. Marie died unexpectedly in 1969. Thereafter Roland met Mary Holowachuk, remarried and adopted her child, Mary Ann. They lived happily together until Mary’s death in 2007. Roland was a very strong family man who always met his obligations, was forthright and loving in his quiet unassuming way. He loved good food, reading and traveling. Roland was steadfast, a man of integrity, and had an immense love for his family. Roland is survived by his son John Pelletier of Hamilton, ON and his daughter Mary Ann Mears and husband David Mears of Calgary, AB; his grandchildren Maggie, Chris and AJ Mears; his sister Helen Pavan of Kelowna, BC; as well as numerous extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Marie in 1969, and his second wife Mary in 2007; as well as his parents and his siblings Laura Escalier, Edmund, Arthur, and Albert Pelletier. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOL-LOWAY (Cochrane, 369 Railway Street, Cochrane, AB), on Thurs-day, November 20, 2014 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Cochrane, 369 Railway Street, Cochrane, AB), on Thursday, No-vember 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. A Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens Cemetery (Calgary, AB). The family ex-tends their heartfelt appreciation to Brentwood Care Facility for being very attentive to Roland’s care and needs, especially to Maria Geronazzo, for being particularly helpful to Roland whenever he needed it.
