Obituary of Jack Brian CASWELL
CASWELL, Jack Brian
February 2, 1961 – Swift Current, SK
October 27, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sorrow that we must announce the sudden passing of Jack Brian Caswell Senior, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
Jack was born in Swift Current, and grew up moving between the Swift Current, Saskatoon and Calgary areas. He graduated from Bedford Road Collegiate High School in Saskatoon, SK in 1979. Following that he attended the University of Saskatchewan where he studied psychology part-time while working full-time at a variety of jobs, primarily 7-Up Bottling Company. It was around this time Jack got re-acquainted with Dorothy Heath from his Bedford Grad class. Jack was always known as an exceptionally hard worker, so naturally he was offered a job at Pepsi Bottling Co. when they took over 7-Up in 1989. Jack married Dorothy in 1987 and three years later they celebrated the birth of their daughter Elizabeth Marie Caswell (Senger). Shortly following Elizabeth’s birth, Jack decided to pursue his Certified General Accounting Certificate, which made him a very busy father when the couple were gifted with the birth of their son Jack Brett Ogden Caswell in 1992.
With the opportunity to move up the ladder at Pepsi Bottling, Jack, Dorothy, the kids and Jack’s father-in-law Ogden Sweet packed up and moved to Calgary Alberta, where Jack started a new career in Production Planning. Soon after this he began to take on accounting and logistics roles; where he found his true calling. Eventually needing a change, Jack moved on to Coca-Cola Bottling Company taking a position as the Production Supervisor. While at Coca-Cola Jack moved from production to distribution, eventually being moved around to various roles wherever his skills were most needed. Jack’s attention to detail and understanding of complex procedures made him an invaluable asset that will surely be missed.
No matter how hard a man works he needs his hobbies, and Jack had plenty of them. He enjoyed woodworking in the shop, reading novels in the tub, going for ridiculously long walks, or just laying sprawled out on the floor doing Sudoku (or maybe snoring with his head in his hand). Jack also canvased tirelessly for The Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Diabetes Association; where he took great pleasure in the bragging rights for raising more money than his wife. The last few years of cribbage and coffee in the morning were an especially treasured time that will be greatly missed. Jack was very proud of his children and their accomplishments. He took great pleasure and pride in watching his children dance and play football, he was especially proud when his daughter volunteered to help manage a high school football team. Jack was very involved with his son’s football teams, and made many lasting friendships with other parents, mainly through the Peewee and Bantam Stampeders, and Jack Juniors high school team the Lord Beaverbrook Lords.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Caswell , his son Jack Caswell Junior, his daughter and son-in-law Beth & James Senger, his brother Brent Caswell, his sisters (and brothers-in-law), Gail & Dave Mack, Carol & Terry Mack and Tanda & Darin Daughton, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Jack is predeceased by his father Edward Jack Caswell, his Great-Grandfather “Jack” Caswell, his maternal grandparents Sarah and David Ginter, his niece Sarah Mack, his in-law’s Kathy and Ogden Sweet, his mother Rosella Caswell and his paternal grandparents Herbert and Noreen Caswell.
