Obituary of George Bob Robert HOLLINSHEAD

July 25, 1923 – Calgary, Alberta September 27, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta Bob, beloved husband of the late Colleen Hollinshead of Calgary passed away on Saturday September 27, 2014 at the age of 91 years. Bob, known to all family and friends as a kind and gentle soul, was born and raised in Edmonton as the eldest son of a family of 7. He joined the RCAF at 18y of age and served as an RCAF pilot for 29 years. His military life entailed many moves across Canada as well as an exchange with the American Air Force which took the family to Florida and Arizona. Bob’s career highlights included flying one of the first jet aircraft obtained by the Canadian Air Force and training pilots in WWII for the British Air Commonwealth Training program. Some of his favorite pastimes were his art, drawing, golfing, camping and travelling with Colleen. A wonderful trip he and Colleen remembered fondly was a 90 day adventure around the world! They also loved spending winters in Phoenix. Bob is survived by his two sons Dr. Robert (Susan) Hollinshead of Calgary and Richard (Wendy) Hollinshead of Vancouver Island, BC; four grandchildren, Lawrence (Maureen), Jennifer, Katherine, and Sara; two great grandchildren Dawson and Crosby; his sister Francis Blythe of Abbotsford, BC; and his sister-in-law Joan Hollinshead He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Colleen, in March of 2014; and his brothers Jim Art Hollinshead and Harry Hollinshead, and his sister, Mary Ogg. As per Bob’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to a charity of one’s choice. Special thanks go to the kind and caring nursing staff of Care West Colonel Belcher, Strathcona Wing. Also special mention to Bob’s personal caregiver, Barbara Cadman, who improved Bob’s last years immeasurably.
