Condolences
As one of John's many friends from the dog park, I am saddened by the news of his passing. My dog, Shasta, and Annie Hall, became great friends the first time they met when Judy first brought her to the park as a puppy. And when John started bringing her for their morning constitutionals, they both made many friends. John was indeed a charming & kind man with a wonderful sense of humor who delighted in sharing interesting tales from his youth and his very remarkable life and career. He is sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
Our most sincere condolences to Judy and family. This was a sad day, and one that we certainly did not expect to happen so soon. John and I (Jim) worked together in Electrical Engineering on joint research projects for many years. We also had many fun and funny fishing trips in his old Land Rover, and later in newer vehicles, 4-wheel driving in the foothills. We also had great fun socializing over the decades. Later, when John joined Computer Science and then became Dean of the Faculty of Science, and I was Head of Electrical for 10 years, we continued to collaborate and discuss many technical and administrative issues. When John became a member of the provincial government's iCore research excellence team, he was immensely supportive of my getting an iCoreNSERC/TRLabs industrial research chair, and supported me in many ways over many years. I was so grateful for that support, as it changed my professional life. He was so positive and cheerful, and it was a pleasure to be around him. Rest in Peace, Dear John, will will never forget you.
To the family of the late Dr. Kendall, please accept our sincere condolences.
I was privileged to have had him as a professor while I was an electrical engineering student.
Like many of his students, I grew to respect him immensely and enjoyed his keen sense of humor.
We became friends and he honored me by attending my wedding in 1974 upon my graduation.
I know that I can speak on behalf of my fellow classmates when I say that he was a favorite of ours.
He epitomized what teaching, leadership and camaraderie should be.
Sincerely,
Ted Jestin (on behalf of the Elec. Engg. Class of '74)
I will miss both John's intelligence and humour at our PaCER board meetings.
