Obituary of Cecil Lewis HOWES

Cecil Howes of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the age of 96 years.

Joe was born on December 12, 1922 in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, England to Cecil and Mary Howes. The family emigrated to Canada in 1927, settling in Winnipeg. On completing high school, Joe enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and served in the Maritime Provinces during the Second World War. After the war, he was moving west and stopped in Calgary to visit his brother Eric.  At that point he met his future bride, Janet, and the two were married in 1947.  In 1949 they were blessed with their son Ian (now of Spruce Grove, Alberta), and in 1951 they were blessed by their daughter Elaine (now of Scottsdale, Arizona). Joe was a friendly, hard-working man who enjoyed his crosswords and soccer.  He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Joe is survived by his children, Ian of Spruce Grove, AB, and Elaine of Scottsdale, Arizona; his three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Joe and Janet had seventy-one wonderful, happy years of marriage before she left us in 2017 at age 95.
