Obituary of Henry (Hank) Allen ARMITAGE
October 29, 1929 – Piapot, Saskatchewan
November 3, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta
Henry Armitage, beloved husband of Audrey Lavina Armitage (nee Romaniuk) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the age of 90 years.
Hank’s loving wife and partner of sixty-seven years, Audrey, daughters, Brenda (Michael Casey), Colleen (Dana Ball), Diana and grandson Cole Nichols, and son Robert, celebrated with great joy his 90th birthday, just days before he passed. His sisters, Eileen Neale and Phyllis Armitage will miss their big brother dearly. Audrey was always by his side and together they encouraged their offspring and grandson, who were their pride and joy. Hank was born in Piapot, Saskatchewan but it was in Calgary where they raised their children. From his early years he was hard-working and was an asset to the companies he worked for: CP Railways, Midland Superior Trucking and Cummins Diesel. Hank retired early at fifty-five years wanting to spend more time with Audrey and visiting their children, wherever in the world they might be. His Catholic faith was very important to him and he gave back through various volunteer opportunities including, the Knights of Columbus, canvassing for Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes and Cancer Societies, as well as any project at St Michael’s Church. Hank was an expert at working with his hands, in his home woodworking shop he created many treasures for family and friends. The generosity he gave with his time and abilities were limitless. Friends and neighbours knew he was the man to ask if you needed a helping hand or advice on a project. Waiting to welcome Hank to Heaven are his loving parents, Robert and Sarah Pearl, his sister Kay and her spouse Ernie Drever, his brothers-in-law, Morris Armitage and John Neale, his son-in-law Jim Nichols, his niece Gail and his many friends who have previously passed. Hank would have wanted everyone to remember that just as he touched their lives, everyone he met touched his. We will forever carry him in our hearts.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Community (800 – 85th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Gathering Hall.
