Obituary of John William QUINLAN

John Quinlan of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the age of 100 years.

Born in Elnora, AB, on January 23, 1919, John was the son of homesteaders and operated the family farm from the age of fifteen. Even though he left farming in his forties and eventually settled in Calgary in 1958, he remained a farmer at heart.

It was in rural Alberta in 1953 that John met and married his wife Barbara Friedt and started a family. They had four children together.

A dedicated and hardworking man, John joined Standard Brands in 1958 where he remained a devout employee until his retirement in 1984. He could often be found tending to his beautiful yard, tinkering in the garage or helping family whenever needed.

His proudest moments were as a grandfather and great-grandfather. John’s eyes lit up with joy whenever the little ones were near and he revelled in listening to their stories and hearing about the accomplishments of all his grandchildren.

John will be truly missed by his daughter Gloria (Franklin) Wheeler of San Antonio, Texas, his son Ralph (Dawn) Quinlan of Okotoks, and daughter Rhonda (Ray) Barry of Cochrane. Also surviving him are thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.   John is also survived by his brother Clifford and his family.

John was predeceased by his loving wife Barbara; his beloved son Melvin; his parents, John and Pearl; and sisters, Evelyn and Ruth. He was also predeceased by all his friends at Standard Brands where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.  Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.  Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre of the Eastside McINNIS & HOLLOWAY funeral home.
