Condolences
Our condolences to you all. Stan and I grew up in Scarboro. He was two years my senior. Hence, he played with the big kids, me not so much. He will always be remembered for Harper's Tire where he served our family well over the years and where Danny and Tom, in true family style, serve us and our son Kevin to this day.
Stan and I both attended CCI (Central Collegiate Institute) sometimes known by others as Calgary's Collection of Idiots. Still as he was two years ahead of me, so there was not much interaction!!!
Later in life, we enjoyed some time together in the fearless foursome of golfers which also featured Vic Beaudry and Joe Fairbanks, two other graduates of CCI.
The smile on Stan's face will always be remembered by me. God rest your soul, old friend.
I am thinking of all of you as you celebrate Stan's life on Monday. I have wonderful memories of Sylvan lake with all my cousins and Uncle Stan. He was very encouraging in helping all of us learn to water ski as well as how to find and catch the frogs in reeds. My sister Cheryl and I after swim lessons at the old YMCA would walk to tire shop (yes in the 60's kids could walk and take the bus without parents). Stan would offer to drive us home as he would frequently be picking up Bev from Colonel Belcher Hospital where she was a nurse.
The combined Harper-Webster family reunions ( 1967, 1985, 2000) are treasured memories and in more recent years the summer backyard BBQ's at Marie's. Stan will be missed and always in our memories and hearts.
So sad to hear Uncle Stan has died. My deepest sympathies Bev, Danny, Tom, Michael and your families - I know your hearts must be breaking. Stan was such a kind, wonderful man - and I have such wonderful memories of him. There were lots of great summers at Sylvan Lake and there was no shortage of kids to tow behind boats all day. Also many fond memories of the families gathering at Christmas overflowing Gramma and Grampa's house. And more recently there were the summer BBQ gatherings in Calgary. May you hold your memories deep in your hearts. Thoughts and prayers are with everyone. Cheryl Harper (now Spelliscy)
