Obituary of Raymond VAN SCHAICK

May 23, 2018 – High River, Alberta
Major Raymond (Ray) Van Schaick, beloved husband of Elsie, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the age of 87 years.
Born and raised in Grande Prairie, AB, he left as a young man to follow a calling to enter the ministry of The Salvation Army. While studying at the college for Officer’s Training, he met Elsie Birchall of Calgary, whom he married on April 17, 1954. Together, their ministry took them across Canada, from British Columbia to the Maritimes, retiring in 1996 to Southern Alberta. A lifelong member of Lions Club International, he served as a District Governor in 1997-1998.
Besides his loving wife, Ray is survived by five children and their spouses, Wesley and Helen, Richard and Michelle, Howard, Kevin and Danielle, Lynn and Rob as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, together with his sisters and their husbands, Ruth and Dave Wylie and Grace and Don Barnett. He was predeceased by his brother Alf.
A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY () on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
