George Steacy of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2019 at the age of 92 years.

George was born in Simcoe, ON, experiencing a childhood surrounded by family members and enjoying his summers at the Port Dover cottage.  His father passed away at an early age and the family subsequently relocated to Regina, SK where he completed high school.  By the age of nineteen, George embarked on his own and established residency in Kimberley, BC where he secured employment with Cominco.  George continued working with Cominco then changed careers to work in the Mine Safety field.  He enjoyed years of Mine Rescue competitions and related events.

In 1952, George met Elaine Langstaff and the couple married in1953.  They lived in Kimberley, Riondel, the HB Mine in Salmo and Montrose, BC.  The family enjoyed downhill skiing in the winter, swimming and sailing in the summer.  George relocated his family to Sudbury, ON in 1970 where they learned cross-country skiing and continued to enjoy summer swims, boating and return trips to the Okanagan.  George and Elaine returned to the West when they relocated to Calgary in1980.

George enjoyed community volunteering, having been a member of the Lions, Kinsmen and most recently the Kiwanis Club of Calgary Foothills.  George’s passion was downhill skiing, of which he was known for his ability.  His last water ski was on his eightieth birthday and his last run on the ski hill was at eighty-five years of age.  Family visits were important for George be it in Balfour, the Okanagan, or Calgary.  George and Elaine enjoyed picnics in the Rockies, travelling throughout Canada, visiting family in Bequia, France, England and the United States.
