Obituary of Caterina BARILE

May 21, 1933 –December 8, 2019

Caterina Barile beloved wife of Luigi Barile passed away peacefully at the age of 86, in her home on Sunday, December 8, 2019.

Caterina leaves behind her husband of sixty-five years of marriage Luigi, four children, Angela (John Franzon), Joe (Patricia) Barile, Tony Barile, and Marco (Deanna) Barile; grandchildren, Rita (Franco Felicella), Robert (Shel) Franzon, Melissa (Taras Netsko), Hayley Barile, Emma Barile, Taylor Barile and Madison Barile; her great-grandchildren, Talia, Gianna, Rocco, Matteo, Oliver, and Isla, as well as numerous nieces and nephews throughout Canada, Switzerland and Italy.

The oldest of twelve children, Caterina is survived by six siblings, Rita Pietrovito, Rosanna Costante, Chiara Iamartino of Calgary, Francesco Curia of Ottawa and Anna-Maria Curia and Gerardo Curia of Italy.

Caterina emigrated with her family from San Giovanni in Fiore, Calabria, Italy on April 2, 1962, to provide a better life for the future. Calgary quickly became home as the family adjusted and kept up to the new Canadian lifestyle. Never forgetting her Italian heritage, Caterina continued traditions of baking and southern Italian cooking that will be passed along for generations to come. Caterina had a passion for gardening Italian herbs and vegetables and was known for her colourful flower beds and fresh cut bouquets. She was also known for her sharp wit and charming sense of humour, an infectious smile that will be imprinted in our hearts forever. Today, we mourn the passing of a precious soul as she begins her journey into eternal life. With the gift of years given, comes the treasure of knowing that there are many who loved her dearly and with this, we will honour her memories with grace and dignity.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum, followed by a reception in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Caterina’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
