Obituary of Patrick GAGNE

July 17, 1934 – Quebec City, Quebec

December 9, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Patrick Gagné, beloved father and grandfather passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019, at the age of 85 years and 5 months at the Colonel Belcher Veterans Care Center in Calgary. Husband of deceased spouse Rita Camiré, son of deceased Mrs. Jeanne-D'Arc Gosselin and M. Patrick Olivier Gagné.

Patrick’s family tree can be traced to the Gagne family that settled in Disreali, QC, in 1877. He was born in 1934 and grew up in Quebec City where his father was a bank manager of la Banque Provincale. Patrick enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1958 and completed his training as an avionics technician. In 1963 he married Rita Camire in Victoriaville, QC. Early that year he was dispatched to Europe to support a squadron of CF104 fighters; he served in France, Belgium, and Germany. His son Daniel was born 1964 in Zweibrucken, Germany. After three years stay in Europe the family returned to Canada. For the balance of his military career he was stationed in St. Hubert and Bagotville, QC. Over the years he climbed through the ranks where he retired in 1984 as a warrant officer in a role of Quality Assurance Auditor on military contracts.

Patrick was always close to his sisters and he enjoyed visiting them, and them visiting him. We remember the Bagotville air show and holidays being a seasonal trip across le Parc des Laurentide.

Patrick then moved to Pincourt, QC, where he joined Canadair in Mirabel, QC, to work on the Canadian CF18 servicing contract with McDonald Douglass. In 1993 he founded his own quality consultant firm, PDG Qualite that operated across Canada until 2012. He served numerous consultant roles with BDC and Intertek, gave lectures at Montreal Polytechnic School and supported numerous firms with their ISO certification.

In 1993 and 1995 his two grandsons were born. His wife Rita died in July 1995. In December 1996 he married Laure Champagne, purchased a little place in Vero Beach, Florida and began a snowbird semi-retirement lifestyle that included singing, golf, softball, and beaches, with annual visits from the grandkids. We all have fond memories of this and the cottage in St. Zotique, QC.

In late 2012 Patrick began showing signs of dementia and he moved to Calgary to stay with his son and family. We cherished our time and these seven years with "Granpapa Patrick." His stay was cut short when he died at 85 years of age on Monday, December 9, 2019.

He will be most remembered by family members and friends, including his son Daniel Gagné (Kathleen McGuire), grandsons David and Kevin Gagné, his sisters, Lise Gagné (Irving Corcoran), Michelle Gagné (Alcide Arsenault), and deceased Marie Marthe Gagné (Paul Pichette); surviving spouse Laure Champagne; as well as nieces and nephews Linda, Claudine, Steve Pichette, Shawn Corcoran, Yanic, and Karen Arsenault.

Based on his wishes there was no viewing period, and a short service at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells) for the family was held on Friday, December 13, 2019. A celebration with the family will be scheduled in January 2020 in Quebec City. The ashes will be interred at a later date in the Cemetery des Bois Franc (St. Martyr) in Victoriaville, QC.
