Obituary of Maureen Mary Ann HARRIES

July 16, 1933 – London, England

December 13, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that on Friday, December 13, 2019, Maureen Mary Ann Harries (nee Whiting) of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 86 years. Maureen was a very kind, giving and caring person. She had many wonderful friends and family who sincerely loved her.

Maureen was born in London, England on July 16, 1933. She had three siblings, Eddie, Midge and a twin brother Maurice. In 1957, she married Ronald Harries, spending twenty-seven years raising a family together. This started with a move to Canada in the late fifties for a better life, shortly followed by the births of their two sons, Michael and Stephen. Together they raised their children and had a good life. Although the move to Canada was for the best, Maureen’s heart was always torn between her homeland of Europe and her new home of Canada. Maureen loved to have a good time with everything she did, this included playing cards, watercolour painting, attending social events, tea’s, music lessons and dancing.

Maureen is survived by her two sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Maria Harries, and Stephen and Aida Harries; five grandchildren, Vanessa, Matthew, Sarah, Malcom and Sabrina; as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Maurice and Joan Whiting. Maureen is also survived by many English relatives, Margaret; Joanne with son Aaron; Cathryn and Joe with daughter Sophie and son James; Paul and Debbie with daughters, Cydney and Lacey; Sarah and Stephen with sons, Boris and Monty; Kim with daughter Yolanda and son Milo; Mark and Amanda; and Tracy and Martin with son Alex and daughter Lydia. Maureen was predeceased by her siblings, Eddie Whiting and Midge Whiting.
