Obituary of Michael John MCKERROW

June 11, 1946 – Sale, England
December 13, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Michael Mckerrow, beloved husband of Penny Mckerrow of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019 at the age of 73 years.

Mike was born in Sale, England on June 11, 1946 to Nora and Ivor Mckerrow.  It was love at first sight when Mike met Penny on the QE2 and became engaged five days after their first date.  The two married in England in 1972 and together moved to Canada, starting their married life in Toronto.  They later moved to Ottawa where they had three children before making the move west to Calgary to raise their young family.

Mike was a member of various Boards and held the Panorama Board of Directors close to his heart. This inevitably led to being an avid skier and more importantly, a Panorama Mountain Friend.  This was one of his great happy places with years of fond memories with friends and family. Mike always considered himself blessed to enjoy his work in his professional career. He loved the private sector before settling down with the Provincial Government of Alberta. Some of his favorite projects included the construction of the Kananaskis Nordic Center, Nakiska Ski Lodge, Tyrell Museum, and the dismantlement of the Calgary General Hospital

Mike had a passion for driving and enjoyed cruising in his Subaru, which is why he is such good friends with his mechanic Nick. Famous for his meticulous packing of cars, Mike also loved Rugby. His favourite team was the All Blacks but loyalty dictated that he cheer for the British Lions. He was quite proud when asked to play with the Penguin Rugby FC of which he did, and held his well deserved necktie close to his heart. He enjoyed travelling the world and never missed an opportunity or the scenic route to see a narrow gauge railway, station, or museum, much to the delight of his supportive family!

Besides his loving wife, Mike is survived by his one daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and  Dave Patton of Calgary; two sons and two daughters-in-law, James and Holly Mckerrow of Peachland, BC  and Chris Mckerrow and Michelle Holden; two grandchildren, Finley and Zoë Patton; and Michelle’s two children, Olivia and Zach Holden.

Mike was predeceased by his parents Ivor and Nora Mckerrow.
