Obituary of Walter Raymond TRAUDT

December 13, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Walter Traudt, beloved husband of Ruth Joanne “Joan” Traudt (nee Fleming) of Calgary, AB, passed away at home on Friday, December 13, 2019 at the age of 84 years.

Walter was born in Castor, AB, on January 10, 1935. He moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1958. Walter and Joan married on New Year’s Eve in 1959, and they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. Walter graduated from the Southern Institute of Technology as a fourth-class power engineer in 1972.

Walter had a passion for gardening and enjoyed working in his yard when the weather was good. He was an enthusiastic rock-hound who  enjoyed prospecting for gold in the summer. He was a kind and generous soul who adored conversing with and sharing turkey sandwiches with his cat “Dollie.” Walter always delighted in visiting with his family.

Walter was predeceased  by his parents Christina Giebelhouse and Conrad Traudt of Norka, Russia; his brothers, John, Bill,  and Conrad; and his sisters, Emily, Nellie, and Annie.

He will be terribly missed by his wife Joan; his daughter Lori Traudt of Calgary,  and his daughter and son-in-law Heather and David Maloney; and grandchildren Lisa and Matthew of Abingdon, Virginia. Walter is also survived by his sisters Esther Arychuk and Marie Jacobs; a large extended family and numerous friends.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.  Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Walter’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
