Obituary of Lucien (Luke) GERARD

July 16, 1950 - Winnipeg, Manitoba
December 13, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years.  After a brief struggle with cancer and surrounded by the love of family and friends, Luke Gerard left us peacefully on December 13, 2019 at the age of 69 years.

Luke was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 16, 1950. After living in Ponteix, Saskatchewan, he decided “go west young man” was for him and made Calgary his home. After several career changes Luke became owner of Bodythings Dancewear and began serving the dance community through his successful business and with the help of his trusted employees. Luke had an engaging personality and was well respected by everyone who knew him. Luke had a life-long love affair with his two favourite golf courses in Calgary and Phoenix and usually liked his scorecard. A bad day on the course is better than a good day in the office. When not working or golfing he would often be found surrounded by his buddies with a glass of red and a Cuban cigar close by.

Luke is survived by his brothers, Alex (Connie), Julien (Joanne) and Ernest (Barb); as well as nieces, nephews and numerous friends in both Calgary and Phoenix.  Luke’s smile and sense of humour will be missed by everyone, including his dedicated managers and team at Bodythings. Luke was predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Lucienne Gerard, his brothers, Hank and Ray and his sisters, Fern and Rita.

In keeping with Luke’s wishes, cremation has taken place and private family interment will be held at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held in Calgary in the spring of 2020. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Luke’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com. The family and friends would like to thank the Chinook Hospice Centre for their care and compassion provided over the past three months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Luke’s memory to The Footprints Dance Project Society of Alberta, http://footprintsdance.com/ or a charity of your choice.

A tree will be planted in living memory of Luke Gerard.  McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
