Obituary of Eva SCHOENFELD (née Saint-Denis)

July 30, 1926 – Berlin, Germany
December 17, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Eva Schoenfeld of  Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at the age of 93 years.

What an adventurous life! Eva was the only child of Erna and Joseph Saint-Denis of Berlin, Germany. As a child she was an entertainer with roles in radio plays and as a member of the singing group, “Die Lustige Sieben”. Near the end of WWII she met and married Peter Schoenfeld, a Ukrainian refugee, and one year later, with an infant son and a group of Mennonites, they journeyed to Paraguay. Two more children were born and grew up in the jungle before the opportunity to move to Canada arose. Saskatoon was home until adventure called from Ontario, where they built their first home, “Green Haven” and then a second, “Gingerbread Acres” on an acreage. They owned a successful business manufacturing septic tanks. Following her husband’s death, Eva moved to Ottawa, and finally to Calgary. Eva was an amazing person. She exemplified many admirable qualities: courage, determination, strength of mind and character, generosity and tenacity. She was dedicated to doing her best in all endeavours, never complaining, especially in the face of adversity. She loved many things: her family, home and pets, reading, decorating with drama and her beautiful gardens. She was a member of the Rosicrucian Order, and served as a Master. Her light on earth has transitioned to a brighter one in the Universe. We love her and miss her but wish her well on her continuing journey.

She is survived by her son, Peter (Mary) and their children, Jason (Cindy), Natalie (Rob) Sanna and Geoffrey (Nadine) all of Ontario; daughter, Dorothea (Dan) Cooney and their daughters Christina (Paul) Marlett, and Vanessa (Paul) Ronksley; son Joe (Mona) and son Sean (Dawn) of Calgary. She enjoyed a tribe of 11 great grandchildren too.

A private family service will take place at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Eva’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

Our heartfelt thanks to all the staff and wonderful caregivers, nurses and doctors who lovingly cared for Eva at Bow View Manor.
