Obituary of Patricia WAN

March 28, 1991 – Calgary, Alberta

December 8, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Patricia Wan of Calgary, Alberta passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at the age of 28 years.

Patricia Bessie Wan was born in Calgary, Canada on March 28, 1991 to Lai Yee Kitty Wong and Dannie Wan, identical twin to Stephanie Wan. Patricia grew up half of her life on the Island of Cheng Chau and half in Calgary. Pat had an affinity for language, speaking Cantonese, English and Mandarin fluently. She loved to be very precise in her use of vocabulary and was outstanding in her wording in English. She could have been an outstanding translator because she would not only translate the words but the meaning, sometimes in a better way than the originator.

Pat was an excellent athlete, winning awards for track and field and badminton alongside her sister Steph. Pat moved back to Hong Kong about 3 years ago with her most faithful companion, Mocha, her, now, 7-year-old Toy Poodle – the most adorable dog in the world.

While Pat was highly intelligent, unfortunately, she suffered from mental illness that interfered with her enjoyment in life and condemned her to a life with many drugs to try to help her deal with the world in a normal way. The side effects were very difficult to live with. 5 months ago, Pat decided to return to Canada and lived with her Mom, Kitty and Noel. Adrenaline always had a positive impact on Pat and so they went on several trips to pursue same – white water rafting, helicopter ride, fast car rides – with many more planned – shooting range, laser tag, snowboarding, downhill biking, bobsled ride, etc.  Unfortunately, Pat’s life was cut tragically short by a random domestic accident.  Kitty, Noel, Steph and the whole Wong and Wan families were devastated.

Life was not easy or a lot of fun for Pat for the most part, interspersed with very fun moments, especially with the little grandchildren in the family. She was a wizard at keeping them happy. She had a special touch with children.  They all asked for her every time we saw them. We believe that these unfair bonds in this world have been slipped and that Pat now rests with God in a much happier place and is looking down on us all and reflecting on her life. She will see so many people that are so sad for her passing but so grateful that she is finally happy and in peace.
