Obituary of Gerald Henry NELSON

Gerald Henry Nelson of Calgary Alberta, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at the age of 98.

Gerald was born in High River, Alberta on October 18, 1921.  After serving in the Navy he married Gerda Adelhaid Theede and worked in the oil industry in Northern Alberta until his retirement in 1975.  Upon retirement he took up golf and continued to golf into his 97th year.  Golfing was his passion and during his “career” he had nine holes in one.  Remaining active to the end, he was at his fitness class the morning of December 17th when he had a heart attack.

Gerald is survived by his only daughter, Heather (Trevor) Johnstone of Vancouver, British Columbia; his nieces Verna (Jerry) Ronald, Sharon Robert, Maureen (Pat) McDonald, Connie Houlden; and nephews Rob (Sandy) Houlden and Darrol (Cheryl) Dierkhising.  Also important to him were his great nieces Danielle, Tara, Lanaya, Erin, Kelly and Karen; and great nephews Jason, Michel, Tony, Mark, Morgan, Christopher, Corey and Kyle.  Later in life, Gerald enjoyed the company of his numerous great great nieces and nephews as well.

Gerald was predeceased by his wife, Gerda (2006); sisters, Leona Houlden, Mildred Nelson and Irene Dierkhising; and nephew, Ken Houlden.

The family extends deep gratitude to the staff and residents at StayWell Manor for their care, friendship and support over the past three years.
