Obituary of Jean Elizabeth GOLDIE

November 10, 1927 - Alnwick, England

December 22, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Jean Goldie of Calgary passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the age of 92 years.

Born in Alnwick, Northumberland on November 10, 1927 to George and Winifred Wilson. Following her college education in Glasgow, she began working in the healthcare field. Jean moved to Canada in 1967 where she pursued a career in the health and medical fields from 1967 to retirement in 1989. This included being on staff for the first graduating class of the University of Calgary Medical School, providing administrative assistance to the Continuing Medical Education department of the Calgary General Hospital and completing her career as an administrative assistant at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.

Jean had an independent spirit and an inquiring mind which gave her a desire to travel to many places, including participating in a student exchange in Holland after WWII and, among other places, Paris, Norway, Switzerland, and New Zealand. After arrival in Canada in 1967, as a Confederation project, she learned to drive, allowing her to pursue her appreciation for travel in her new land and overseas.

Jean had a heart for serving others which was strengthened by her ability to organize and administer projects and events. She attended and volunteered at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church for over thirty years.

Jean is survived by brother-in-law John McCaffrey, nephew Paul McCaffrey (Joanna) and family Alex and Eleanor, and niece Anne McCaffrey, all of whom reside in Great Britain; and godson David van den Bos (Shelley) of High River, AB.
