Emiliana DAVIS

Obituary of Emiliana Busbus DAVIS

August 9, 1926 – Sierra Bullones, Philippines
December 20, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

"Emiliana ‘Emie’ Busbus Davis, beloved wife of the late Lamberto ‘Ben’ Davis and mother of five children, Geronides ‘Roni’, Florencia ‘Flor’, Tirso, Dorothy ‘Ruth’, and Maximiliano 'Max', grandmother of nine, Neil Jesus, Ian, Ema, Lovella, Steven Darius, Mark, Gary, Anthony, and Gabriel, great-grandmother of five, Mekenna Mae, Ariana Keitenz, Tristan Jude, Sidney Joshua, and soon to be born Gabriella Love.

Emiliana Davis was born and raised in Candelaria, Dagohoy, Bohol, Philippines to parents Maria Digal and Leon Busbus, who worked hard for the family as farmers.  She was the third of four siblings, Alfonso, Margarita, and Anastasia.  She had a passion to teach children and pursued an education degree in college.  Together with her husband, they settled in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte, in the Philippines, where they raised their family and she taught in grade one at the nearby Kinabjangan Elementary School, until she retired at age sixty.  They eventually immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1993 to be with the rest of her children who already migrated there in the late 1980’s.

She was a woman gifted by God with many skills and talents, besides teaching, she loved singing and was amazing using her hands in making different crafts.  She was recently featured in 'Migrante Alberta's Photo/Art exhibit: Kwento't Litrato'.  Her story and photo was shared as a senior Filipino migrant who came to call Alberta home.  One of her art pieces was displayed and the exhibit was also shown for a week in Edmonton City Hall and will return to be displayed in Calgary, Arts Commons in February 2020 for a whole month.

The greatest of all about her is how her family & friends will fondly remember and dearly miss was her big soft heart for everyone around her.  We credit it all to her faithful prayer life and love for the Lord.  She was dedicated and devoted to lifting up all who she loves to the Lord in daily prayers as early as 5:00 a.m.  A true prayer warrior for everyone.  Even when her dementia have started a few years ago and her mobility was limiting her, she still strived to watch the mass in TV and do her prayers; together with her prayer partner and husband, Ben.  Their sixty-five years of marriage and love for the Lord has definitely created three strands that cannot easily be broken (Ecclesiastes 4:12). God indeed blessed and held their marriage and family throughout the highs and lows that life could bring.

Emiliana lived a full blessed life of 93 years.  She battled diabetes and all its complications for several decades.  Certainly, a strong and courageous woman to have lived several months more after she was told her kidney functions was only at five percent since early this year.  She also stayed strong for the family when we had to say goodbye to her husband, Ben, in February of this year.  He passed away in their home, Emiliana laying beside him looking out for him till his last breath.  It truly is a special gift from God for us to witness their love and faithfulness to each other until the end, drawing strength from the Lord.

Although we are with great sadness grieving for her today and forever, we are comforted by the many beautiful memories our family had with her.  Her caring heart, her beautiful soul, and her singing to us repeatedly just two weeks ago the lyrics to a song she composed herself ‘Good luck, good health, and God bless you'.  Today and forever we will have peace in our hearts as we stand on God's promise that for all who believed in Him will have the right to be called His children (John 1:12). Indeed, Emiliana who loved and devoted her life to the Lord is now enjoying her eternal rest in heaven face to face singing and making crafts for our Lord and Savior."
