Obituary of Henry "Hank" VAUGEOIS

Henry "Hank" Vaugeois, beloved husband of his late wife, Clare, passed away on December 24, 2019 at the age of 93 years.

The eleventh child and only son of Alfred and Bernadette Vaugeois, Henry was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. After serving proudly in the Second World War, Henry went on to become an accountant in Alberta’s oil and gas industry. Henry and Clare’s sixty-eight year romance began in Edmonton at a Catholic Youth Organization’s dance. They were married in 1951. After living in Edmonton and Drayton Valley, Henry and Clare eventually settled in Calgary where they raised their five children together. They had a love of travelling, which took them to New Zealand, Fiji, Arizona, Quebec, Alaska, and Hawaii. They spent much of their golden years "out at the lake" in the Windermere Valley with family and friends. Henry was an active member of St. James Parish in SW Calgary for over fifty years. He will always be remembered for his extraordinarily gentle nature, unwavering patience, natural inquisitiveness, and contagious sense of humour.

Henry is survived by his children, David (Lori), Denise (Brian), Lorne (Krista), and Carol (Roy). Henry was predeceased by the love of his life, Clare, who passed away earlier this year, and their daughter, Lynn, who passed away in 1980. Henry was a hero of a grandfather to his nine grandchildren, Jarett (Alex), Joel, Alanna, Trevor, Lauren, Nicholas, Sean, Jenna, and Hayden.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church (5504 – 20th Street SW, Calgary, AB) Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
