Obituary of James Samuel McAULEY

November 28, 1928 – Drumheller, Alberta
December 25, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta 

Jim McAuley, beloved husband of Lucy who predeceased him in 2004, passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2019 at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel in 1975 and Roseann in 2001. 

Jim was born in Drumheller, AB where he grew up foraging for fossils in the Badlands and raising snowy owls and other raptors which he held with great affection. He attended high school at Campion College in Regina and obtained his Electrician’s certification from the SAIT in 1952.  

He was hired by AGT / TELUS in February 1953 and enjoyed a thirty-year career that also resulted in life-long friendships.

Jim married Lucy in January 1953 and their family grew to include five children: two daughters and three hockey players. Jim was a committed hockey dad who coached many Haysboro teams while the boys were young. In retirement he enjoyed fishing, drawing, carving, garage sales and renewal of gently-used hockey equipment, hockey on TV and time with family and friends.

Jim’s proudest legacy was his family: He is lovingly remembered by his five children, Joan and Ralph Endersby of Toronto, Donald and Ali of Calgary, Gary of Airdrie, Kevin and Sandi, of Okotoks and Maureen and Doug of Calgary; his eleven grandchildren, Amber, Michael, Tyler, James, Monserrat, Daniel, Alyssa, Steven, Katelyn, Jordan and Bradley; and four great-grandchildren: Blake, Logan, Melina and Quinn. 

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.  Reception to follow in the Church Hall. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on James’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
