Obituary of Hazel HART

 December 23, 2019 – Airdrie, Alberta

It is with great sadness and love that the daughters of Jean Hart, announce her passing at the Bethany Centre in Airdrie, Alberta  on Monday, December 23, 2019 .

Jean was born in Great Village, Nova Scotia on May 4th, 1928 and passed on December 23, 2019 at the age of  91 years surrounded by her loving daughters.

Jean was the second oldest girl in a large family of twelve (eight girls and four boys), and was very inspired to build her own life, travelling west at the age of 17. Jean was married at 18 and had seven children of her own, the first at 19 years of age.

She was a loving and caring Mother and Grandmother, who after retirement volunteered in her community on a regular basis. She was an active Legion and Lioness member, volunteering delivering food through Meals on Wheels as well as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

Jean had a very large extended family with 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She loved baking and her children looked forward to the Christmas Tins of homemade baking at Christmas time every year. She was well known for her delicious pies and biscuits.

Jean loved to dance and some of her fondest memories were of her and her daughters dancing the jive in the living room of the house on a regular basis. Jean was a world traveller with family. She was devoted to her dog Tiny who was her faithful companion until she moved into the Bethany Centre.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Shirley Thompson, Gail Delange, Joy Elson ( Terry) , Sandy Brost ( Jason) and Sherry Williams ( Ken); her 21 grandchildren;33 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; her sisters Shirley Knibbs, Dorothy Goldrich ( Colin), Millie Schulte Stotlz ( Julian), and Susan Garnum ( Brent); her brother Don Seaman ( Gail) ; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Hazel was predeceased by her sons Terry McGowan and Gary McGowan; her  parents Claude and Susan Seaman; and her siblings, Harold, Inez, Janice, Marg, Calvin and Jack.  

The daughters would like to extend their warmest appreciation for the comfort and compassion shown by the staff of the Bethany Centre who cared lovingly for Mom in her final days. Jean touched so many in her life and will be greatly missed.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Airdrie, 300 Towerlane Drive) on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.   Reception to follow .Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Jean_’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
