Obituary of Betty Jane JAGER

It is with sadness and peace that we announce the passing of Betty Jane Jager (Hoey) of Calgary, AB. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the age of 77 years.

Betty was born in Alliston, ON on October 5, 1942 to Mary and Gordon Hoey. Betty had the pleasure of growing up with two older sisters (Anne & Ruthe) and a twin brother (John). Betty loved school and always excelled as a student, particularly in Math and Science. Betty graduated from Banting Memorial High School with honours and then went on to graduate first in her class from the Nightingale School of Nursing in 1966.  Betty married Harvey Jager in 1967, and continued her nursing career. Betty loved horses and together they bred and raised horses just outside of Kitchener. They welcomed their first daughter, Lara and then moved to Calgary in 1973. There they welcomed their second daughter, Kelly. 

Betty was an amazing mother who was extremely dedicated to her family and always displayed unconditional love. She lived her life with kindness, compassion and a fantastic sense of humor. She often cracked a big smile and came out with a hilarious, witty comment. Betty loved travelling to Hawaii, to Florida, and particularly back to Ontario to spend time with her siblings and mother. Many summers were spent at cottages surrounded by family. She knew how to have fun, be silly, enjoy life and show love to all around her. 

Betty is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Lara (Eric) Jensen and Kelly (Ryan) Sinclair; five grandchildren, Emma Jensen, Chris Jensen, Nathan Jensen, Hudson Sinclair, and Lucy Sinclair. She is also survived by her sister, Anne Thomson (John); sister-in-law, Mary Hoey; brother-in-law, Jim Gwynne; and ex-husband, Harvey Jager. 

Betty was predeceased by her parents, Mary Jane Hoey (Langley) and Gordon Hoey, twin brother John Hoey and sister Ruthe Gwynne.

A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, January 25, 2020at 2:00 p.m.  Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
