Obituary of Lowell Demet BECKER

February 2, 1938 – Lafleche, Saskatchewan
December 26, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Sadly the family of Lowell Becker announces his passing on December 26, 2019 at the age of 81. Those who came to know Lowell will recall his invincible nature, zest for orderly things and keen ability to strike up a conversation with colleagues, neighbours and family.

Lowell grew up in Moose Jaw, SK, and became an accomplished violinist. After achieving a BA and BEd from U of S, he then moved to Calgary given his love of skiing which included volunteering as a ski patrol.  He taught at Henry Wisewood briefly before he switched to the energy sector and led a very successful career with Amoco Petroleum (pre-merger with BP PLC) that spanned over twenty-six years, living in both Chicago and Calgary, culminating as VP of Human Resources. Lowell had a love for his many years with family sitting on the dock or boating at the cabin at Shuswap Lake and later during retirement he continued exploring wine country and golfing in the Okanagan/Shuswap and spent twenty-three winters in Palm Desert, CA. Like many of us who golf regularly, Lowell had a love/hate relationship with the sport, loving it when achieving multiple holes-in-one, but not so much when his strokes were higher than his type-A personality could tolerate.  Lowell was also an avid runner - medalling in his age categories - and regularly walked in Fish Creek Park with Fern.

He leaves behind his wife of fifty-four years, Fern; daughter Kari (Keenan Moroz); son Kevin (Satnam) and grandson Kaiden;  his sister Dorothy Fuller of Calgary; brother Morley (Pat) of Edmonton; and sister-in-law, Jean of Kelowna. Also left to mourn are Lowell's nieces, Maureen Hoskyn of Vancouver, Karen Hoskyn (Ian Moss) of Victoria,  Lori Becker (Bob Jeanes) of Vancouver, Tannis McBean (Lloyd) of Phoenix, Barbara Hollman (Terry) of Edmonton; as well as nephews, Steve Becker (Cathie) of Oakville, Gregg Becker (Catharine) of Edmonton, Robert Fuller (Kathy) of Calgary and Mark Becker (Tammy) of Calgary. Lowell was predeceased by his brothers, Elwood (Muriel) of Calgary, Russ of Kelowna; sister Millie Hoskyn (Bill) of Victoria; and brother-in-law Charles Fuller of Regina.

A private service will be held later by the family. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Lowell’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
