Obituary of Helen Hanna TAYLOR (nee Weighill)

Helen Hanna Taylor passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at the age of 100 years. 

Helen was born in Eastend, SK on December 20, 1919, the first of eight children born to Gordon and Florence Weighill.  Helen was enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps and served in the Canadian Military Headquarters in London, England during WWII. Helen married Morris Taylor in 1946 and they resided in Natal, BC for two years until moving to Alberta, where Morris began a career buying grain. Over the next eighteen years, they lived in Legend, Foremost, and Coaldale. In 1966 they moved to Calgary, where Helen has resided until her passing. Helen worked for Calgary Co-op (Macleod Trail) for twenty-three years, supervising in the Kiddie Korral and selling Co-op memberships. Helen loved gardening, sewing, hosting special gatherings, family and friends’ visits, watching figure skating and Lawrence Welk. Helen was an avid member of the Canadian Women’s Club. Helen was a gracious lady and a loyal friend. 

Helen is survived by her son Clifford (Bud), grandchildren, Wade, Tanis and Kerrie, their mother Marilyn, and great-grandson Matthew; daughter Catherine (Steve) Olsen, grandchildren, Trevor and Teresa, great-grandchildren, Carmen, Kyshia, Sterling, Hannah and Emma, and great-great-grandson Kyro; son Arthur (Dawn), and grandchildren, Kristin, Kurtis and Jesse; as well as her sisters-in-law, Fay Weighill, Mildred Brinker and Phyllis Attwood; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. Helen was predeceased by her husband of sixty-one years, Morris Taylor, and all of her seven siblings, Dick Weighill, Bob Weighill, Gord Weighill, Marion Everson, Patricia Taylor, Mary Lou Halderman and baby Hazel Weighill.  

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
